Very timely post, especially considering the recent news that banks that owe the taxpayers billions of dollars are giving themselves hundreds of millions in bonuses. Disgusting. They claim they need to do it to reatin top talent (like the talent that helped to bring us into this mess?). Really? Where else are they going to go? I don't recall my company going to the US govt for my bonus money. The rest of the world didn't get bonuses. Entitlement breeds contempt.

I'm a banker (community, not investment) so I can't relate directly. But your assessment of some persons in powerful positions with no real financial background is absolutely true in my experience. Not in my bank, of course.

It's a difficult industry in which to work, because simply by walking in the door I'm vilified in the eyes of many, no matter how nobly I try to live and work.

I'm tired of being treated like a necessary evil by some and like a dog by others.

I'm whining, I know. :)

I guess I never really think about stuff that doesn't directly concern me until I read posts like yours that leave me with my jaw on the floor. Thanks for the post--it is quite enlightening.
