For those who don't know, Google Reader shows both the blogs you subscribe to and the ones you 'follow'. I'm trying to switch over the subscriptions to following because it's a bit friendlier, but you can easily see how many subscriptions a blog has by clicking on the 'show detail' button in Reader. Not that I ever do that, no siree.

I find this post really odd.

Kind of like saying, "I really like listening to this rock band. But then I made a classical CD and they didn't want to listen to it. So now I'm not going to listen to THEM any more, either."

Also, I hate to be the one that breaks this to you, but number of blog followers - unless they're well into the thousands - have got absolutely nothing to do with a book deal, unless we are living in some kind of crazy magic land, in which case I am ready for my unicorn.

That's an interesting take on followers. I would like more followers, too, but personally think that 'profile views' are the thing to measure. Others find comments the thing that spurs them on.

By clicking on Follow it will lead you to a reader, maybe the one you're already using. Google? Yahoo? Clicking on a RSS feed saves you from manually entering feeds into a reader.

A number of people (myself included) prefer to subscribe to a blog via a RSS feed reader. I personally find the Blogger RSS clunky and would rather read full posts in one place as they are posted. I rarely visit someone's actual page unless I am leaving a comment. So don't feel disheartened or lonely - there are many people reading what you write, even though it might not show up publicly.
